Today we offer our almighty congratulations to RLX staff player Luke Donald, who has become the first man in golf history to top both the US and the European money lists in the same season.

Donald’s third-placed finish at yesterday’s Dubai World Championship was greeted with bellows of ‘Luuuuuuuuuke’ as he cemented his Race To Dubai title, having already topped the PGA Money List in America with victory at the Children’s Miracle Network Classic in Florida in October.

Donald’s nearest rival for the European title, a rather weary Rory McIlroy, had dropped out of contention having posted a disappointing, but hardly shameful, –9 for the week, which allowed the World No.1 the freedom to relax and complete his glittering 2011 season in style.

He duly nailed three consecutive birdies through 16, 17 and 18 to card a final score of –16 at The Jumeirah Golf Estates. Afterwards he paid tribute to his late father, who died suddenly only last month:

“He would’ve been very proud of me and would’ve given me a big hug today,” said an emotional Donald, who now travels to Melbourne for The Australian Masters, his final event of a hectic, but ultimately glorious year.
