New Brand Alert | Extracurricular Golf
Extracurricular Golf is the latest brand added to our offering of stylish on and off-course apparel. While the brand officially launched in 2021, there’s a familiar face at the helm as Chris Rosaasen makes his return to the golf fashion world with his sights on changing the game…again.
Chris Rosaasen had a knack for providing fashionable apparel at an early age. During his time at La Sierra University, he was given the opportunity to lead the buying efforts at Moreno Valley Ranch Golf Club. He took a unique approach bringing in non-golf brands like Quicksilver, Billabong, and Ralph Lauren sportswear. The approach was a hit at the club and ultimately Rosaasen used this experience to win a Student in Free Enterprise contest and launch the globally successful brand Rosasen, blending the world of golf and surf together. The original Rosasen store opened in 1999 on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles and the brand was sold to a Japanese distributor in 2006.
In 2008, Rosaasen partnered with Travis Brasher, John Kruger, Travis Johnson to help grow TravisMathew into a global player in the golf apparel business as CEO and CCO. Highlighted by tour professionals John Mallinger, Bubba Watson, and many more sporting the gear on golf’s global stages, TravisMathew was sold to Callaway in 2017. After TravisMathew was acquired, Rosaasen sold his stake in the business which came with a non-compete agreement allowing him to work on his golf game playing 5-6 times a week resulting in a current handicap index of 1.4.
When we asked Rosaasen what inspired him to start Extracurricular Golf, he told us “I want to do it one more time. Different than Rosasen and TravisMathew. More of an east coast vibe, JFK meets Steve McQueen.” Inspiration and design elements of the Extracurricular Golf draw from golf fashion in the 60’s and 70’s blended with the technology of today’s fabrics. The goal is not to be the loudest dressed, understated but still fashionable upon second glance.
