Nike aims to finish the year of remarkable footwear drops strong with the upcoming release of the Air Jordan V Black/Metallic colorway. Available on Friday, December 11th at 7AM PST, this release may be the final release of the Air Jordan V Golf before the brand pivots to the Air Jordan IV model sometime in 2021.
The Air Jordan V was originally released in February 1990 and was the first of the iconic brand’s shoes to feature a clear rubber sole. Legendary sneaker designer Tinker Hatfield added flames to the side of the sneaker to reflect his views of MJ’s performance on the court resembling a fighter plane. Inspiration was drawn from a WWII fighter plane, the Super Marine Spitfire MkVIIIV pictured below.
Golf’s version of this iconic sneaker is elevated with an air-assisted midsole with the metallic silver “shark’s tooth” design resembling the graphics of the aforementioned WWII fighter planes accompanied by clear rubber outsole segments with removable traction cleats.
