US OPEN PREVIEW
The burning question: Will Brooks claim the three-peat and become the first man since Willie Anderson in the early 1900’s to claim three consecutive US Opens??
It is baffling (to say the least) that amongst many reports and fans alike, Brooks Koepka, currently number one in the world and defending champion, is not considered one of the hot favorites for this championship. Considering he has won four out of the last eight major championships- this is truly mind boggling.
Amongst the favorites to claim the trophy are Dustin Johnson, Rory Mcilroy, Tiger Woods and Brooks. With the course being set up in typical US Open condition, it will surely be a case of the winner being the best putter from the group of players that have the best ball striking weeks. Hitting fairways will be paramount to success, as the greens as likely to be a lot firmer and faster than they were earlier in the year on the PGA at Pebble Beach.
So with all the mentioned players featuring within the top 15 of the Greens in Regulation category, they will be ideally placed to enjoy a good week at Pebble.
As with all Major championship and more specifically a US Open, the USGA will look to trick the course up to keep the winning total around level par. With players now arriving at the course and posting images from their practice round on social media, we are getting a close up of the difficulty of the course, with all that being said, it is another Major Championship and the golf will be at the highest level on one of the best golf courses on the planet.
But with all that being said, it is another Major Championship and the golf will be at the highest level on one of the best golf courses on the planet.
TIPS FOR THE WEEK
FROM TEAM TG
Matt: Brooks Koepka; you don’t win back to back US Opens and four out of the last eight majors and not be a favourite every time you tee it up
Will: Tiger Woods; Being in California is going to have a calming effect on his game.
Ben: Rory McIlroy; after a dominating win at the RBC Canadian Open, Rory will take that form and win this week at the US Open.
Laura: Francesco Molinari; Hasn’t been himself since the disappointment of the Masters, but will turn it around this week at Pebble Beach.
Ian: Tommy Fleetwood; Runner Up to Brooks last year after a final round 63, if Tommy is going to win a Major, the US Open looks favourite to be it.
Stu: Dustin Johnson; The bookies favourite, on a course that he loves, it’s a match made in heaven.
Wes: Bryson DeChambeau; a recent change of irons will spark a return to Bryson’s best form.
