A Bold New Era for Women's Golf Fashion

Golf is experiencing a renaissance, with fashion becoming an integral part of the game’s evolving identity. Leading this charge is the new adidas x JAY3LLE collection, a powerful collaboration between adidas and the luxury fashion label JAY3LLE, co-founded by visionary designer Johan Lindeberg and his daughter, Blue Lindeberg. Launched with the goal of transforming women’s golf fashion, this capsule collection is now available in limited quantities on adidas.com, the adidas app, and select retailers worldwide.

The adidas x JAY3LLE collection isn’t just another golf apparel line—it’s a statement. Inspired by the intersection of sport and fashion, this collection introduces bold, visually striking silhouettes designed to empower women on and off the course. With a unique blend of streetwear influence and high fashion, the collection embodies the energy and inclusivity that are redefining the sport today.

Johan Lindeberg’s deep-rooted history in fashion and golf is reflected in every piece of this collection. From launching the pioneering J. Lindeberg brand to now spearheading JAY3LLE, Johan has always sought to push the boundaries of golf fashion. "This capsule speaks to the energy and inclusive community that’s steadily growing in the sport, especially amongst women," says Johan. "That’s why focusing on womenswear for this collection was so important."

The collection’s design philosophy revolves around creating pieces that are as functional as they are stylish. The adidas x JAY3LLE capsule includes a variety of standout items, such as the sleek Bomber Jacket with its 3-Stripes accents and the sport-meets-elegance Pleated Skort. But the showstopper is undoubtedly the CODECHAOS JAY3LLE high-top golf shoe—a futuristic, ultra high-top design that challenges the conventional aesthetics of golf footwear.

Linn Grant, an adidas athlete and LPGA Tour professional, is one of the faces of the collection. Linn’s involvement in the design process has ensured that the pieces are not only fashionable but also tailored to meet the demands of the sport. "I know these silhouettes will inspire a lot of women to get out of their comfort zone and wear something that will provide them with energy and positivity whenever they play," Linn shares.

The collection also features a dynamic color palette, blending purples, reds, and pinks against deep blacks and pure whites, capturing the spirit of modern women’s sports. From high-waisted leggings and flare pants to a PRIMEKNIT sweater and a variety of polos and accessories, the adidas x JAY3LLE collection offers something for every woman looking to make a statement on the golf course.

EXCLUSIVE TRENDYGOLF INTERVIEW WITH JOHAN LINDEBERG

TRENDYGOLF: Tell us about your history in the golf and fashion industries.

Johan Lindeberg: I started playing golf when I was in high school. My girlfriend, who was not only the most beautiful woman in school but also a fashion designer, photographer, and club champion in golf, became very influential in my life and inspired my career. I always saw golf as a reflection of the search process in life—to find sync and balance. I was also inspired by 70s stars like Ballesteros and Johnny Miller, among others. I thought Arnold Palmer was especially cool, flying his own plane. I stopped playing golf when I started working for the jeans company Diesel in the early 90s. Golf at that time was not really part of the Diesel lifestyle. However, after a few years of success at Diesel, where I held the roles of International Marketing Director and CEO of Diesel USA, I started playing golf again. Being an influential part of the Diesel movement, I came up with the idea of combining fashion and golf—a lifestyle that mirrored how I wanted to live. I decided to leave Diesel and launch a new brand that combined both. In 1996, I launched J. Lindeberg in both NYC and Stockholm, with both a fashion and golf collection. In the first press release, it said, "I can inspire the game of golf; I can inspire the world." It was a hard and ambitious challenge, but we really pulled it off.

TRENDYGOLF: Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind your new brand JAY3LLE?

JOHAN LINDEBERG: My daughter Blue and I are best friends. We’ve done road trips through Africa, been to Nepal together after the earthquake, and partied until 5 a.m. during Paris Fashion Week. We are both New Yorkers with a strong Swedish influence. During COVID, Blue came to Stockholm for 1.5 years, and we created a podcast together. During the 10-episode podcast, the idea to create a new project beyond generations and borders organically came to life. I felt I wasn’t done as a brand and community builder and was really inspired by the energy of the new generation. Blue, who is studying psychology and grew up in design studios, was excited to do something together and connect our communities around the world. We always heard that people were inspired by our combined energy. We decided to call our connection JAY3LLE. We believe that now, more than ever, it’s time to combine fashion and sports. It feels so natural and organic today compared to when I launched J. Lindeberg almost 30 years ago. JAY3LLE is a new lifestyle community where we combine our two personalities and networks.

TRENDYGOLF: Tell us about the inspiration behind your collaboration with adidas?

Johan Lindeberg: I have always been an Adidas fan, and Blue feels the same. Adidas Originals has always been at the forefront of connecting with the new generation, making it a great partner. Around the same time, I met Swedish golfer Linn Grant after she won the Scandinavian Mixed by 9 strokes. I was really inspired by her, and it felt like Linn could be a muse, just as Jesper Parnevik and Camilo Villegas inspired me during my J. Lindeberg days. So, I called Adidas Golf in Carlsbad and connected with Dylan Moore, the Creative Director for Adidas Golf. Blue and I were excited, and this time it felt right to start with only women’s apparel and a look that would inspire the new generation to start playing golf.

TRENDYGOLF: How does your experience in the fashion industry influence your approach to designing golf apparel?

Johan Lindeberg: I believe I have a great advantage in coming into golf from fashion. It has always been my strength, compared to sports or hardware companies trying to bring golf into fashion. I have always been part of creating trends and have stayed close to influential fashion and street communities around the world. Blue is the same; she lives in downtown NYC and is very connected to the influential art and creative communities. It feels natural for us to take inspiration and dress our friends around the world.

TRENDYGOLF: What unique features can golfers expect from this collaboration?

Johan Lindeberg: Adidas x JAY3LLE reflects the trend happening around the world. I’ve always believed it’s not about age but about community energy. We are truly inspired by women’s sports, which have gained real energy and power over the last two years. I love our pleated skirts, bomber jackets, and the iconic high-top women’s golf shoe—it feels so innovative and powerful. It’s exciting that the new generation is really endorsing golf. In places like Los Angeles and Seoul, it feels like golf is the new skateboarding.

TRENDYGOLF: Can you describe the design process for this collaboration?

Johan Lindeberg: I gathered my team at my barn in the south of Sweden, where I have my design studios. I usually start by creating ideas and mood boards on the walls, then we discuss as a team and start designing together. We flew to Carlsbad, where Adidas Golf is located, and had an immediate connection with the team there. We worked together on the design ideas and selected fabrics and materials. We returned twice and also met in NYC with Blue. Today, many collaborations involve small adjustments to existing products, but Adidas x JAY3LLE was created from scratch—except for the golf shoe, where we used an existing sole but designed the top. I am really proud of the high-top women’s golf shoe; it’s truly unique and symbolizes this collection.

TRENDYGOLF: Are there any plans to collaborate with professional golfers or other influencers in the golf community?

Johan Lindeberg: The plan is for Linn Grant to debut Adidas x JAY3LLE at St Andrews. I just hope it won’t be too cold in Scotland to wear all the great pieces. It’s inspiring to present this collaboration at St Andrews, which is holy ground for men’s golf, and to do so at the first-ever women’s Open held there. Both Blue and I will be there; I’ll play in the Pro-Am, and Blue will be part of the Adidas x JAY3LLE fashion show.

TRENDYGOLF: How do you balance aesthetics and functionality in your golf apparel designs?

Johan Lindeberg: Personally, I don’t think too much when I design or photograph; I just follow my intuition. It’s always easier to have a muse in mind, like Linn Grant, Blue Lindeberg, Troy Mullins, or Lua Bealieu, who is Blue’s best friend. Function and trend naturally come together.

TRENDYGOLF: What inspires the color palettes and patterns in this collection?

Johan Lindeberg: I was really inspired by a photo from the film Paris, Texas with Natassja Kinski wearing a pink sweater. We also had images of muscle cars like the ’71 Charger in purple, with a woman stepping into the car wearing red boots. I also thought of deserts and mountains and how to combine the fairways of St Andrews with the streets of NYC.

TRENDYGOLF: How do you see the intersection of golf and fashion evolving, and how does JAY3LLE fit into that vision?

Johan Lindeberg: I’ve always emphasized that we are fashion and golf, not golf and fashion. Our strength is coming from the streets and fashion into golf. Today, I want to push the style further. When I created J. Lindeberg, I aimed to create a modern style that would be accepted in the more corporate golf community. We didn’t create a protest but rather inspired golf style in a new direction. My goal was to dress the more modern part of the establishment and make it more progressive—to create the Apple of apparel. Now, golf has become one of the coolest sports in the world. The new generation is discovering golf as a metaphor for personal development. I really want JAY3LLE to drive this new community in golf. That’s why it’s so inspiring to have Blue as part of JAY3LLE. The challenge 20 years ago was to combine fashion and golf—fashion people didn’t understand golf, and golfers didn’t like fashion. In that sense, I was unique and portrayed the life I wanted to live: to be conscious of fashion and trends but also to dress modern on the golf course. Today, the dynamic is different. The new generation loves golf and enjoys dressing individually on the golf course. There is a much bigger generational gap today, and with JAY3LLE, we want to be part of the new movement and the new generation in golf, not the established part. It’s an inspiring cross-cultural energy that I see in golf today.

TRENDYGOLF: What impact do you hope JAY3LLE will have on the future of golf fashion?

Johan Lindeberg: I am so inspired by connecting all the contacts that Blue and I have around the world. It’s about connecting people beyond borders through creativity, fashion, and sports. Today, musicians, artists, producers, and designers are discovering golf as an incredible metaphor for personal development. I love hitting golf balls for hours—it really makes me connect with the present moment.

Hero Label

"We believe that now, more than ever, it’s time to combine fashion and sports," says Johan. This collection is a testament to that vision, offering women around the world the opportunity to express their individuality and confidence through fashion-forward golf apparel.

As golf continues to evolve, the adidas x JAY3LLE collection stands at the forefront, leading the charge for a new era of style and empowerment in women’s golf. Whether on the fairways of St Andrews or the streets of NYC, this collection is designed to inspire women to embrace the power of fashion in the world of sports.
